  1. 04 Moon Song

From the recording LIONS AND BUTTERFLIES

Lorraine: “When our son Euan was a baby - he is six at the time of writing this - we were subject to the regular night-time feed calls that all new parents have, just at the time when they need rest the most! One night, it was my turn and I woke with Euan who had been sleeping next to me. He was a very bright little boy from the start, wanting to grab life with two hands and live every second of it, and nothing has changed to this day. It was a hot early summer’s night so I took him outside into the garden and it so happened that there was a full moon that lit up the sky and everything within sight - almost like the full glow of daylight. Euan spotted the moon and was transfixed - he stared and stared at it, and the big white sphere reflected back at me from his fascinated young eyes. It felt like a moment of magic, but it also struck me there and then that this was an instant I would never live again. I took no photo - I relied on my memory to hold that image for as long as I could. We are all so wrapped up in the busy lives we lead and sometimes I wonder if capturing images on phones is a way of allowing ourselves to put off the
treasuring of moments until we find time to do so. Living for the moment is fabulous - but
incredibly hard to do as well.”

MOON SONG

A tiny heartbeat and
Next to me breathing you

Kept your rhythm and I fell out of time

The moon it stirs us, its
Waxes and wanes, a billion refrains

The same melodic line

The dead of darkness and
Borrowed slumber
But now I need you
You know that it won’t keep
I need to take in more of this paradise

That you have brought me
It’s not a time to sleep
Leave the ordinary

Step out of everyday

Young eyes fixed on the moon’s light
And they’re shining
As these moments fall away

A tiny heartbeat and

Next to me breathing you

Kept your rhythm and I fell out of time
And if this moment will
Never breathe again

I’ll hold it captive

Forever in my mind

Leave the ordinary
Step out of everyday
Young eyes fixed on the moon’s light
And they’re shining
As these moments fall away
